Abby & Ben - Winter Wedding: Fostoria, OH

There’s a light dusting of fresh snow on the ground from the night before, the sky is a dark shade of gray, and it’s currently raining. Welcome to Ohio in December.

The weather is not ideal, but Abby reminds herself that this is just a minor detail of the day as she finishes getting ready. It was a realization that couldn’t have been more right. In just an hour or so she’d be marrying Ben, a man she loves, surrounded by family and friends. And that was all that would really matter.

The ceremony went smoothly, followed almost immediately by a trip to visit Abby’s grandmother who was unable to attend. It was an almost bittersweet moment as we stood in the nursing home taking photos, but it was also reassurance that everything else was just minor details, and moments like these are what really mattered.

I owe Abby & Ben a huge thank you for allowing me to be part of their day and for being such troopers and we stood outside in the rain/snow :)

Many thanks to the everyone who made this wedding so special…

Fall Senior: Riley

“Artistic and strong headed.” That’s how Riley described herself to me. And from the first email she sent, I could tell Riley knew exactly what she wanted from her session.

Probably one of the most organized people I’ve worked with, early on Riley had sent me a link to an inspiration board on Pinterest. The board full of Lana Del Rey imagery, aptly titled “Goddess,” gave me the perfect idea of what she wanted her shoot to be styled after—something more editorial/edgy than a typical senior session.

Blessed with beautiful weather, we set out for our session just before sunset to capture the moodiness of early evening. As the sun began to fall in the sky we moved from downtown Tiffin to the park, capturing so much along the way. Riley was a natural in front of the camera, and after I began going through the photos once I got home, I knew that this was one of my favorite shoots.

(As a side note, deciding which images to put in this blog post was traumatizing—there were so many amazing shots!)

Otto: 3 Months

Photography is about a single point of a moment. It’s like stopping time. As everything gets condensed in that forced instant. But if you keep creating these points, they form a line which reflects your life.

I couldn’t think of a better quote to describe my professional relationship with the Snyder’s. October marked are 5 years of working together, and I know I’ve gone into details of it throughout numerous blog posts in the past, but it has truly been special to be the one capturing these moments (or points) over the years.

Pam & Jeff - Wedding: Tiffin, OH

“Joe…emergency…I’m at the ER getting stitches in my face right now.”

It’s 8:30 in the morning, I’m just waking up and getting ready when Pam sends me this message. A million thoughts go through my mind and I hope that everything is alright. Pam reassures me a few minutes later that “It’ll be ok.”

When I arrive at the hair salon I see Pam with an ice pack under her eye, the spot where her sisters dog had accidentally scratched through the skin requiring several stitches. But there was something else I noticed—she was calm. Very calm. I know many brides who would’ve been devastated, but Pam wasn’t going to let this ruin her day. And that is what I loved about working with her (and Jeff). That no matter what might happen they were going to do this. And that’s what marriage is about—through good times and bad.

Luckily for Pam and Jeff, the rest of their day went very smoothly. The weather was was perfect, the decorations and flowers were beautiful, the food was great, and most importantly everyone was having a good time celebrating this new marriage.

Many thanks to the everyone who made this wedding so special…

Evie: Lifestyle Newborn

I’m an uncle. And my niece—she’s pretty great.

A precious, sweet, little girl with light red hair; Evie was born in late June and just a week later was ready for her first photo shoot.

I knew going into this session that I wanted to do things a little differently than I have in the past. I wanted to capture the the honesty and real moments that make this time special. I want Jen and Nick to be able to look back on these photos and remember those first few weeks when everything was new and different because, now, about a month after this session, Evie has already changed so much. And while I don’t want to rush her growing up, I can’t wait until our first tea party 💁🏻
